FORT WORTH
HOUSING AUTHORITY
RECEIVES TWO INDUSTRY AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE FROM
SOUTHWEST REGIONAL ASSOCIATION
FORT WORTH, TX --- “Investing In The Community” isn’t just an
endearing company motto for the Fort Worth Housing Authority
(FWHA); the agency and staff are taking this mission to heart. The
FWHA announced today that it has received two industry awards of
excellence from the Southwest Regional Council of the National
Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (SWRC-NAHRO), the
leading housing and community development advocate for the provision
of adequate and affordable housing throughout the Southwest Region.
The first award received is for the “Best Agency Newsletter.”
FWHA’s Assisted Housing Happenings Newsletter was selected for its
comprehensive coverage of the Housing Choice Voucher Program
(formerly Section 8). The newsletter is distributed quarterly
to landlords and program participants. The Association noted that
the newsletter is innovative and provides useful and resourceful
information for each target audience.
The second award is a special achievement honor for Continuous
Meritorious Accomplishment presented to a FWHA employee for
significant volunteer efforts in the homeless community. Anna
Gaines, an administrative assistant at FWHA, began a small holiday
ministry to homeless day laborers 8 years ago and her dedication to
this cause has expanded the distribution of Christmas gift bags from
20 bags of socks and work gloves to 200 bags filled with over 20
items chosen specifically to assist the homeless. Now an annual
event, Christmas for the Homeless gains new donors each year as Anna
continues to inspire others to open their hearts and wallets to help
those in need.
“We are quite proud of our agency newsletter and Anna’s great
volunteer spirit,” said Barbara Holston, President & CEO. “I think
these two industry awards firmly illustrate how we at the Fort Worth
Housing Authority are consistently and creatively investing in the
community we serve. We expect to see these types of honors increase
in the future.”
The FWHA and Anna will receive plaques, certificates and recognition
from the Associations’ President at the Southwest NAHRO Regional
Conference in Lafayette, LA, during an official awards luncheon on
Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at 11:30AM.
