The FWHA’s Resident Services Department is responsible for assessing the needs of residents and coordinating resident-focused programs that encourage them to achieve their highest level of economic and social independence. The department links program participants to much needed vocational, employment, and educational training, transportation, daycare, health care, and other ancillary services.
AMAKA CHILD CARE CENTER
The Amaka Child Care Center is operated in collaboration with the YMCA and
is located in the Butler housing community. Amaka provides affordable day
care to low-income families who are working,in job training who are involved
in educational pursuits. Amaka Child Care Center is a “state of the art”
facility with a capacity to accommodate up to 100 children.
BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF GREATER FORT
WORTH
The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Fort Worth has local branches in two FWHA
housing communities. The clubs at Butler Place Apartments and J.A. Cavile
Apartments offer educational, recreational, cultural and leadership programs
for area youth. The organization also provides tutoring, mentoring and
social activities throughout the year.
Numerous public housing industry associations present annual scholarships to deserving high school seniors whose families are public housing residents or voucher program clients.
GIRL’S SUMMER BASKETBALL
FWHA conducts a summer youth girls basketball program for residents ages 9-12. The six-week program is designed to promote recreational activity and teamwork. League games are held regularly and teams are coached by staff volunteers.
